Walking Group

We organise a walk each month, usually on the third Saturday. Everyone, members of St. John's, friends and visitors, of any age, is very welcome to join in as many or as few walks as they wish. It is an opportunity to get together with others, and to get out into the countryside and maybe climb a mountain. Often we finish at a tearoom or have a bar meal. At Christmas we have a short walk followed by a lunch in a pub or restaurant.
This page outlines the walks programme. Walks vary in length and difficulty. Because the days are shorter and the weather more uncertain, walks in the winter months tend to be closer to Edinburgh and shorter in length. In the summer we are more ambitious; we go further afield and often climb higher. We normally travel by private car and there is always space for those who require transport, although an offer of a contribution to the cost of petrol is appreciated.
Nearer the time further details are posted on the notice boards in the Church porch and hall, and there is also a reminder in the pew notes. If you would like to come on a walk please advise the leader, listed in the programme, by the Thursday before the day of the walk.
Some walks are suitable for well-behaved dogs. If you would like to bring your dog on a walk please consult the walk leader.
Bring a picnic lunch and plenty to drink, waterproof clothing and walking boots or heavy shoes.
Note that is not a formal walking club and is therefore not covered by insurance.
We are also invited to join in the walks organised by the walking group at Christchurch, Morningside. Details of their walks for this year, which tend to be more strenuous than ours, can be found on the leaflet displayed in the church porch.
